A Dutch Flintlock Pistol, Maastricht, circa 1700

Signed 'DELAHAYE' on the lock plate. Round barrel with smooth bore in 16 mm calibre and brass front sight. Chambered iron flintlock and cock. Zebranowood full stock with brass furniture, trigger guard and escutcheon. The brass grip cap with chiselled head of the Greek god Zephyros. Wooden ramrod with iron tip. Length 46.5 cm. [II] VUURSTEENSLOT RUITERPISTOOL Maastricht, circa 1700 Gemerkt op de slotplaat 'DELAHAYE'. Kal.16 mm. Ronde, gladde loop met balusters en messing korrel. Gewelfde ijzeren slotplaat en haan. Bestoken zebranohouten lade. De ajourgezaagde en geciseleerde messing zijplaat met decor van voluten en acanthusblad. Messing trekkerbeugel met decor van de Griekse god Mars en mascarons. Gekroonde duimplaat met portretmedaillon. De geciseleerde messing kolfkap met decor van voluten, bazuinblazende figuren en bladwerk. De knop in de vorm van mascarons, voorstellend de Griekse god Zephyros. Houten laadstok met ijzeren stopper. Lengte 46,5 cm. [II] Steinschloßpistole, Maastricht, um 1700 Die Schloßplatte beschriftet "DELAHAYE". Runder Lauf mit Balustern und glatter Seele im Kaliber 16 mm. Messingkorn. Gewölbte Eisenschloßplatte und Hahn. Zebranoholzvollschaft mit Messinggarnitur, Daumenplatte und Abzugsbügel. Ziselierte Messingknaufkappe mit Voluten, Figuren und Maskaron des griechischen Gottes Zephyros. Holzladestock mit Eisendopper. Länge 46,5 cm. [II] Note: It is almost sure that this gun was made by Franciscus Servatius De La Haye(I), also Frans or François, gunmaker and gundealer (c.1673 - c.1750). Son of Pierre de La Haye. He sometimes worked together with his brother Michael. Franciscus was a wealthy and influential gunmaker. He lived the greater part of his life at the Vrijthof in the house the 'Dolfijn', where he also had his workshop. Seven of his delivery contracts are known, between 1704 and 1750. The most important were concluded shortly before his death in 1753 with GodefroidCorbeau, at that time the largest gun dealer in Maastricht. Thiscontract concerned the delivery of 25.000 flintlock muskets withbayonets to the Gecommiteerde Raden van Holland. His son Engel Michael de La Haye, succeeded him after his death.
