Note:

This work, Untitled Composition (1988), belongs to the artist’s late period and reflects the fully developed visual language that defines Alexander (Shura) Bandzeladze’s contribution to Georgian abstract painting. Created on the eve of significant cultural transformation, the composition embodies a refined interplay of gesture, structure, and tonal harmony. Marked by a controlled yet expressive painterly approach, the work demonstrates Bandzeladze’s ability to balance spontaneity with formal coherence, resulting in a composition of notable depth and subtlety. Works from this period are held in major institutional collections, including the Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University, USA, and were introduced to European audiences in the landmark exhibitions Georgia On My Mind at DuMont Kunsthalle, Cologne, and Museum Fridericianum, Kassel (1989–1990), affirming the artist’s significance within the broader context of late 20th-century abstraction.
