Opaline Glass Crucifix by Jan Perey for Van Paridon Brothers, Amsterdam

Crucifix composed of opaline glass panels painted in polychrome, depicting Christ crucified under the inscription "INRI," with bleeding wounds emphasized by vivid red accents. The cloudy background and stylized treatment of the body reflect a modernist interpretation of traditional iconography. Set within a thin wooden frame, with a suspension hook to the top.

Kruisbeeld samengesteld uit panelen van opalineglas, polychroom beschilderd met de figuur van de gekruisigde Christus onder het opschrift “INRI”, waarbij de bloedende wonden zijn geaccentueerd met felrode tinten. De nevelige achtergrond en gestileerde lichaamsvormen weerspiegelen een modernistische interpretatie van traditionele iconografie. Gevat in een smal houten lijstje, voorzien van een ophanghaak aan de bovenzijde. Gesigneerd met het monogram L van de kunstenaar Jan Perey voor Gebroeders Van Paridon, Amsterdam.

The Van Paridon Brothers (Gebroeders Van Paridon) operated a prominent studio in Amsterdam specializing in stained glass and religious art during the early to mid-20th century. Opaline glass, characterized by its milky translucence, was favored for its ability to diffuse light softly across painted surfaces, creating an ethereal effect particularly suitable for devotional objects.
