An Adolphe Gaiffe Electro-Medical Induction Apparatus. Paris, France, circa 1875. In wooden case, accompanied by numerous accessories, that can be screwed onto the insulating handles : flat electrodes, cylindrical electrodes capable of receiving a wet sponge, electrodes in the shape of an olive or a metal brush, under the closed half cover, the battery compartment contains a trough for two "mercury bisulphate" cells. And one other similar device of a later date. Measurement: L. 29 cm. catalogue Note: In the second part of the 19th century, many induction coils were built for electro-medical use. The first devices of this type, truly portable, were proposed by Ladislas (Adolphe) GAIFFE in the 1870s and their success was significant: high-voltage electric discharge became essential for curing most ailments. The boxes, often elegant and very complete, are mainly used by practitioners of alternative medicine. Estimate: 80-100
