Baroque Carved Wood Figure of a Saint
Southern Germany or Austria, late 17th century.
Deeply carved walnut figure depicting a youthful male saint in contrapposto, clad in a swirling mantle draped across one shoulder and around the waist, revealing the torso. The figure stands barefoot on a naturalistic rocky base, with flowing hair and a gentle downward gaze. The back is hollowed and roughly finished. Losses to the attributes and both forearms.

Diep gesneden walnotenhouten beeld van een jeugdige mannelijke heilige in contrapposto, gekleed in een wervelende mantel die over één schouder en rond de heup is gedrapeerd, met de torso ontbloot. De figuur staat blootsvoets op een naturalistisch gevormde rotsachtige basis, met golvend haar en een zachte, neerwaartse blik. De achterzijde is uitgehold en ruw afgewerkt. Verlies van attributen en beide onderarmen.
