Uitgevoerd in rijke impastotechniek met vloeiende penseelstreken en een kleurpalet van zachte blauwtinten, warme huidtonen en romig wit. De emotionele verbondenheid tussen de figuren wordt versterkt door de ingetogen blik van Maria en het handje van het Kind tegen haar wang. Gevat in een witgeschilderde houten lijst.
