Glazed Ceramic Wall Plaque of a Saint by Charles Vos (1888–1954)

Terracotta wall plaque in relief, depicting a standing saint holding a child, modeled in an expressive, stylized manner with strong surface texture and sweeping drapery folds. Executed in reddish-brown terracotta with natural tonal variations, characteristic of Vos' religious works from the interwar period.

Terracotta wandplaquette in reliëf, met de voorstelling van een staande heilige met een kind, gemodelleerd in expressieve, gestileerde vormen met een sterke oppervlaktestructuur en brede plooival van het gewaad. Uitgevoerd in roodbruine terracotta met natuurlijke toonvariaties, kenmerkend voor het religieuze werk van Vos uit het interbellum.

Charles Vos (1888–1954) was a leading figure in 20th-century Dutch religious sculptures. Trained at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and influenced by Jan Bronner and Charles Eyck, Vos developed a distinctive, modern approach to sacred subjects, combining powerful emotional expression with simplified, dynamic forms.
