Devotional glazed ceramic figure of the crowned Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child on her left arm. Mary is depicted standing with gently inclined head and flowing drapery, holding a flowering sceptre, while the Child reaches affectionately toward her chest. The figure stands on an integrated octagonal plinth inscribed with the artist’s full name and reproduction rights.

Devotioneel keramisch beeld, geglazuurd, van de gekroonde Heilige Maagd met het Christuskind op haar linkerarm. Maria is staand weergegeven met licht gebogen hoofd en vloeiende plooival, in haar hand een bloeiend scepter; het Kind reikt teder naar haar borst. Het beeld staat op een geïntegreerde achthoekige voet met inscriptie van de volledige naam van de kunstenaar en reproductierechten: “G. Hack-Rutten, Maastricht.”

Gérard Osval (Gerard) Hack (1893–1975) was a religious sculptor and designer based in Maastricht. Following his marriage in 1922, he adopted the name Hack-Rutten. His work, characterised by calm expression, balanced proportions, and flowing Gothic Revival lines, was widely reproduced in the mid-20th century for churches, schools, and private devotion. This sculpture reflects the Marian piety typical of Limburg devotional culture, with clear reference to medieval models and a stylised yet accessible visual language.
