Oval Ceramic Relief Plaque of the Descent from the Cross, France, 19th Century

Attributed to Jean-Baptiste REVILLON (1819-1869)

Inscribed to the base Jésus est détaché de la croix.

High-relief ceramic wall plaque depicting the Descent from the Cross, modeled in deep sculptural relief with numerous finely rendered figures. Christ is shown being lowered by two men using a ladder and cloth, surrounded by mourners including the Virgin Mary, Saint John, and Mary Magdalene. Executed in a cream-coloured ceramic with sepia and charcoal toning to accentuate depth, set within an oval frame form with a matte blackened border.

Toegeschreven aan Jean-Baptiste Revillon (1819–1869).

Opschrift op de basis: Jésus est détaché de la croix. Frankrijk, 19e eeuw.

Keramische wandplaquette in hoogreliëf met voorstelling van de kruisafneming. Christus wordt door twee mannen met een doek van het kruis neergelaten, geflankeerd door rouwende figuren waaronder de Maagd Maria, Johannes en Maria Magdalena. Het reliëf toont een rijk aantal gedetailleerd gemodelleerde figuren. Uitgevoerd in crèmekleurig keramiek met sepia- en houtskooltinten ter accentuering van diepte. Gevat in een ovale omlijsting met matzwart afgewerkte rand.
