Hand-Painted Ceramic Tile of the Virgin Mary at Lourdes, Dated 1898
Signed and dated “Louise Marie, 1898” to the front.
Marked on the reverse with company mark Petrus Regout, Maastricht.
The lower edge inscribed in French: “a touché à la grotte de Lourdes” (has touched the grotto at Lourdes), suggesting the plaque was brought to and touched at the pilgrimage site. Rectangular white ceramic tile with scalloped top, featuring a painted depiction of the crowned Virgin Mary standing in prayer at the Grotto of Lourdes. She is shown in white robes with a blue sash and rosary, surrounded by flowering plants and rocks. The background is painted with soft clouds and a pale sky. A pierced round hole at the top allows for suspension. The reverse marked with the oval factory mark of P. Regout, Maastricht.

Rechthoekige witte keramische tegel met geschulpte bovenzijde, met voorstelling van de gekroonde Maagd Maria biddend bij de grot van Lourdes. Maria is afgebeeld in wit gewaad met blauwe sjerp en rozenkrans, omringd door bloeiende planten en rotsen. De achtergrond toont zachte wolken en een bleke lucht. Onderaan in het Frans: a touché à la grotte de Lourdes, wat suggereert dat de tegel de bedevaartplaats heeft aangeraakt. Aan de bovenzijde voorzien van een rond doorboord ophanggat. Achterzijde gemerkt met het ovale fabrieksmerk van Petrus Regout, Maastricht.
