A Javanese Royal Gold-Damascened Steel Sarong Hook

Central Java, Indonesia, Dated 7-12-1847.

A royal sarong hook in the shape of a bird, the gold decoration depicting stylised feathers.

These hooks were used by princes upon coming of age.
