Anton ROOSKENS (1906-1976)

Untitled

Lithograph Monogram
AR lower left

29.5 x 23 cm.

Provenance:

Dutch private collection.

Biography:

Anton Rooskens (Griendtsveen, March 16, 1906 – Amsterdam, February 28, 1976) was a Dutch painter and metal teacher at the Don Bosco School in Amsterdam. He was a self-taught artist. Rooskens initially painted in an expressionistic style, showing a clear influence from Vincent van Gogh. After moving to Amsterdam in 1945, his works became more experimental. Influenced by the simple, clean forms of folk art (particularly ancestor figures from New Guinea, Africa, and India), he developed his own form of expression, characterized by a colorful interplay of lines and shapes. In keeping with the Cobra tradition, his work features fantastical creatures.
