Vieux Paris porcelain, unmarked.
France, circa 1860.
Two porcelain figures depicting the crowned Madonna holding the Christ Child, each standing on a raised base with scrollwork and decorative moulding. The figures are dressed in white robes adorned with parcel-gilt detailing and hand-painted facial features. One base is moulded with the crowned Marian monogram “AM”, the other with a stylised scroll motif. Both display the distinctive characteristics of Vieux Paris production, including lavish gilding, fine porcelain, and religious iconography.
Vieux Paris porselein, ongemerkt.
28 cm. high. and smaller
Note:
These figures are part of the devotional porcelain tradition of Vieux Paris, referring to the many independent workshops active in the Paris region from the late 18th to mid-19th century. Often produced for domestic altars or as pilgrimage souvenirs, such figures were made in considerable variety, typically unmarked, and richly decorated. Their expressive faces and elegant poses reflect the blend of Rococo influence and Catholic iconography typical of Second Empire religious art.
