Impressive Carved Fossil Woolly Mammoth Tusk on Custom Stand

Circa 30,000 to 40,000 years old

Fine carving in the Chinese taste covers the majority of the tusk with various traditional emblems of old man playing Go-game, a woman with peaches and a crane bird, coins, Laughing Buddha playing with five children, Magu with deer, Shou-Xing Chinese God of Longevity, a floating Goddess playing guitar and others.

Thickness: 5.75 in. / 14.6 cm.

Following the ban on elephant ivory in 1972, wolly mammoth tusks became a desirable material to use as a medium for fine Chinese carvings.
