Note:
This portrayal of Saint Theresia of Ávila (1515–1582), the Spanish Carmelite reformer and Doctor of the Church, were produced for devotional use in a domestic or convent setting. The iconography—flaming heart, crucifix, palm, and rosary—references her visions and martyr-like piety. Porcelain figures of this type were widely produced in Germany and Bohemia around 1880–1930, especially in regions such as Thuringia, for both export and Catholic devotional markets.
