Gilt Bronze Figure of Chakrasamvara and Vajrayogini

Nepal, Dated NS 983 (1863).

Seated on a double-lotus base over a stepped openwork lion throne, with Chakrasamvara holding a vajra in his right hand and a bell in his left, gazing benevolently down to Vajrayogini, seated with her arms around his neck holding a skull cup and a curved knife, both adorned with elaborate tiaras and backed by an interlocked flaming nimbus and aureole, an extensive inscription on verso.

The inscription on the reverse translates to "On the 15th of the dark half of Jestha in the year 983 this image was made in the name of the deceased Sri Jaya Nalasimha and his son --- by his son Sidya Nala Simha and family. On the 13th of the bright half of Thila 984 the image was consecrated."
