Karel Appel (Amsterdam, April 25, 1921 – Zurich, May 3, 2006) was a Dutch painter and sculptor in modern art from the second half of the twentieth century, who can be counted among the expressionists. He made his breakthrough with his membership of the Cobra group. In Amstelveen there is a special museum dedicated to Cobra and Appel: Cobra Museum for Modern Art Amstelveen. His work can be seen in museums all over the world including Guggenheim New York.
