French Officer Sword for Chasseurs (Hunters) of Vincennes, M.1842

French Officer Sword for Chasseurs (Hunters) of Vincennes, M.1842 Sabre d'Officier Inférieur des Chasseurs de Vincennes, Devenu Chasseurs d'Orléans. Second Empire. Later became the Chasseurs (Hunters) of Orleans. Signed on the back of the blade: ‘A. (Pierre Auguste) Chassepot entrepreneur a Châtellerault’. Chased gilded bronze frame with knucklebow-hilt, openwork branch and decorated with oak branches and laurel broaching on a bundle of 4 flags. Horn grip with grooves. Curved and single-edge blade with round back brought to the tip. The sword comes with a ‘white’ metal sheath with two suspension rings. Frans Sabel voor Officier ‘Chasseur de Vincennes’, M.1842 ‘Sabre d'Officier Inférieur des Chasseurs de Vincennes, Devenu Chasseurs d'Orléans’ 2e Franse Keizerrijk. Gesigneerd op de rug: “A.
