The motifs reflect central themes in Catholic piety: the Virgin of Sorrows, the Eucharist, and the Sacred Heart. Fonts bearing inscriptions such as Agnus Dei or pilgrimage dedications (Kevelaer) were especially popular among pilgrims and church patrons.
