A pair of small satsuma vases, attributed to Seikozan

Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Late 19th century

Each flattened, elongated ovoid vase set on splayed feet and decorated in polychrome enamels and gilt over a crackled glaze with large panels containing courtyard scenes with Samurai in full armour and interior scenes with ladies.

 

Height 12cm.

 

Catalogue note: Comparison was made by a similar pair from  Bonhams auction of FINE JAPANESE WORKS OF ART, New York 16 Mar 2016.

Condition: in overall good condition, one vase with minor restoration to the rim, each vase with very minute loss of enamel.
