A Satsuma bowl

Japan, Meiji period 19th century

A shallow rounded bowl standing on a short footring, decorated with enamels and gold, the interior with a rectangular panel with an interior scene with three ladies and surrounded by a black border with gold key fret pattern, the rim with a band consisting of a multitude of flowers, the exterior with three lily-leaf shaped panels with garden and interior scenes with figures and precious goods, surrounded by bamboo, the rim with a zigzag pattern in gold on a black ground. Unsigned.
