A Satsuma vase

Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century

Baluster shaped with two compressed handles applied horizontally to the shoulder, decorated with various coloured enamels and gold, with downward hanging lappets decorated with half lobed roundels with a phoenix surrounded by scroll work on a geometric ground, alternating between lappets with floral and geometric patterns, near the base six hollyhock sprays.

 

Height 24.5 cm

Condition: appears to be in overall good condition, with a small hairline to the rim.
