A Satsuma vase

Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912), late 19th century.

Baluster shaped vase, decorated with various coloured enamels and gold, the body depicting a Lord and Lady accompanied by a servant, the back with an archer accompanied by another man resting his head on his walking stick, the shoulder decorated with ocean waves and shells, each shell decorated with floral and geometric patterns, the base and rim with a band of lappets, signed to the base in gold.

 

Height 15 cm.

Condition: in overall good condition, with minor restoration to the rim where a small shard has been reset.
